Tangan Robot 3D-Printed Main Piano ‘Jingle Bells’

Kini tangan robot 3D-printed dapat bermain piano frasa musik sederhana “Jingle Bells”. Caranya, tangan robot 3D-printed menggerak-gerakan pergelangannya. Begitu hasil uji-coba robot J. A. E. Hughes et al di Universitas Cambridge (UC) yang dirilis oleh jurnal Science Robotics edisi Desember 2018 (J. A. E. Hughes, P. Maiolino, F. Iida. “An anthropomorphic soft skeleton hand exploiting conditional models for piano playing.” Science Robotics, 2018).

Tim ahli itu membuat tangan robot dari bahan keras dan lembut 3D-printing yang mereplika tulang dan ligamen—bukan otot atau tendon—tangan manusia. Jemari robot tidak bergerak bebas dan hanya bergerak “pasif” meniru gaya bermain piano tanpa mengubah properti material dan mekanis tangan robot. Gerakan jemari dan tangan robot bergantung pada desain mekanis tangannya (University of Cambridge, 20/12/2018).

“We can use passivity to achieve a wide range of movement in robots: walking, swimming or flying, for example. Smart mechanical design enables us to achieve the maximum range of movement with minimal control costs: we wanted to see just how much movement we could get with mechanics alone. Piano playing is an ideal test for these passive systems, as it's a complex and nuanced challenge requiring a significant range of behaviours in order to achieve different playing styles,” papar Josephine Hughes, peneliti indera taktil robot  thermoplastic, Department of Engineering, UC (Diane Samson/Tech Times, 21/12/2018).

Gerak hewan adalah hasil interaksi otak (kontrol), lingkungan dan tubuh mekanik. Properti mekanis dan desain sistem fungsi intelijen sangat penting karena membantu hewan dan mesin melakukan gerakan rumit. “Our bodies consist of smart mechanical designs such as bones, ligaments, and skins that help us behave intelligently even without active brain-led control. By using the state-of-the-art 3D printing technology to print human-like soft hands, we are now able to explore the importance of physical designs, in isolation from active control, which is impossible to do with human piano players as the brain cannot be 'switched off' like our robot,” ungkap Dr. Fumiya Iida, ketua tim riset (University of Cambridge. “3D-printed robot hand plays the piano.” Science Daily, 20/12/2018).
