Gagasan Kreatif Dari Gelombang Alfa Otak

Untuk menghasilkan gagasan-gagasan kreatif, otak seseorang perlu menekan gagasan-gagasan terdahulu. Gelombang-gelombang otak bagian temporal kanan otak (right temporal alpha oscillations) berperan mencegah pola pikir umum dan biasa guna mengakses gagasan-gagasan lebih jauh dan kreatif. Begitu hasil riset kolaborasi Caroline Di Bernardi Luft et al (2018) pada Queen Mary University of London dan Goldsmiths, University of London di Inggris.

“If we need to generate alternative uses of a glass, first we must inhibit our past experience which leads us to think of a glass as a container. Our study's novelty is to demonstrate that right temporal alpha oscillations is a key neural mechanism for overriding these obvious associations. In order to understand the processes underlying the production of novel and adequate ideas, we need to break down its constituent processes, dissecting creativity as much as possible at first, and then analysing them in context, before putting them back together to understand the process as a whole,” papar Dr. Caroline Di Bernardi Luft, ketua riset ilmiah itu dari Queen Mary University of London di Inggris (Queen Mary University of London, 10/12/2018).

Level gelombang alfa lebih tinggi memungkinkan seseorang mencapai gagasan-gagasan lebih jauh dari gagasan-gagasan umum atau lazim digunakan. Hasil riset itu menunjukkan bahwa merangsang bagian temporal kanan otak pada gelombang alfa meningkatkan kemampuan membangun tautan nyata dan jelas dalam kedua bentuk pola-pikir kreatif (convergent thinking dan divergent thinking). Hal ini terlihat dari penggunakan teknik non-invasif transcranial alternating current brain stimulation (tACS)  ke otak dengan dampak minimal hingga tanpa efek samping atau sensasi (Science Daily, 10/12/2018).

Tim peneliti itu memantau aktivitas listrik otak melalui electroencephalogram (EEG) yang merekam sinyal-sinyal listrik melalui sensor-sensor kecil yang dipasang pada kepala. Teknik tACS juga memudahkan tim peneliti mengkaji pola hubungan sebab-akibat gelombang-gelombang alfa otak. Eksperimen tim ahli itu antara lain meneliti cara otak melakukan sejumlah peran kreatif menemukan kata-kata yang berhubungan satu sama lain, misalnya kata-kata “cat > dog > animal > pet > human > people > family” (Science Daily, 10/12/2018).
